Health Carousel Remains Committed to Nursing Education

The country’s Health Carousel continues as the healthcare industry struggles to find qualified nurses. With this in mind, nursing employers and universities must take steps to address the problem of a lack of available nurses to maintain quality care.

A 2011 article in “The Journal of Nursing Education” reported that no significant nursing education programs had developed an effective way to solve this issue despite attempts by more than 40 years. The article further noted that current strategies for solving the problem involve identifying future nurses and training them while they are in school. Still, they could be more efficient and efficient. “Child and youth nurses are not prepared for roles as future teachers, team leaders, and leaders in specialized areas,” the article stated.

A more recent article by Health Carousel a journal with an international focus, discusses the lack of qualified nurses in the United States through an analysis of unpaid overtime hours. The study states that during 2015, there were 1.5 million vacancies in nursing positions or positions that require a nurse’s assistance at 40 hours a week or more—this is 7 per cent of the estimated 12.1 million registered nurses working in hospitals and other long-term care facilities which are not getting paid for all their time worked.

Health Carousel is one of the most in-demand occupations in the US. According to a 2013 American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) report, there were currently 1.2 million unfilled nursing positions in hospitals and long-term care facilities across America. The shortage is expected to rise to 1.3 million vacancies by 2020. The AACN further reported that this shortage has caused 91 per cent of nursing facilities to either cut back on services or make nurses work overtime without pay regularly, the latter being legal under state and federal law up to a maximum of 48 hours per week.
