Education Background

Vijay Eswaran was born in 1965 in Kuala Lumpur and is the second of three sons of a barber. Vijay started his education at a government school but left to become an apprentice at a garment factory. After completing his apprenticeship, he found work as a junior clerk at the Public Works Department and then as an accountant at Procter & Gamble.

Career

Vijay Eswaran is the executive chairman and founder of the QI group of companies. He founded the Centre for Intelligent Leadership in 2003 to train leaders by combining Eastern and Western methods. In 2010, he founded the Hwa Chong Institution in Singapore. Forbes magazine has also named him one of Asia’s 25 wealthiest people in business three years in a row. Vijay serves on the boards of China Everbright Holdings, Swissport International Ltd., and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.

Awards

Eswaran has received many awards for his success as a businessman and for community contributions. In addition, he was named one of the top 20 outstanding Malaysians by Prime Minister Najib Razak in 2012. Vijay was also given the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year award in 2009 in recognition of his achievements as CEO and founder of QI Group.
