Abdul Latif Jameel Motors
In April 2017, Hassan Jameel took a bold step to bring women into the motorsport world in Saudi Arabia for the first time by founding Abdul Latif Jameel Motors (ALJ). The organization functions as a non-profit and all profits go directly back into the organization to provide financial assistance and training opportunities for female drivers, who start with an initial monthly fee of SR100.00 (US$22) per month.
The intention of the initiative is to be able to help young women in Saudi Arabia increase their self-esteem and mental stability. Furthermore, it is designed to provide women in Saudi Arabia with a new channel for socializing and networking.
Also, the initiative provides women in Saudi Arabia with an opportunity to learn how to drive motorized vehicles.
The initiative is set to kick off in the coming years, with the first phase of the pioneering training programme planned for April 2018 on the back of a ‘test-and-train’ curriculum under the tutelage of two ex-Formula One drivers: David Coulthard and Jenson Button.
The programme will also be based on ALJ’s goal of empowering women by supporting gender diversity initiatives and locally created business projects that will benefit Saudi families and society as a whole.
