Roy Beck is the Founder and President of NumbersUSA Education and Research Foundation, a national grassroots organization with over 750,000 members that lobbies to reduce the annual flow of foreign worker permits. The Foundation’s mission is to educate the public about the economic and social costs of mass immigration for working Americans.
Roy Beck Education
Roy Beck graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1966. His first journalism job was as a reporter for The Daily Missouri Daily Student. He later worked as a reporter and editor at The Fort Scott Tribune and George Journal before moving to Washington, DC, in 1969 to report on Capitol Hill. He received his M.A. from George Washington University in 1970 for a book published by the school’s Center for Congressional and Public Affairs, titled “Congressional Investigations,” later published as a book under the name “The Governors: A Study of Their Mental & Moral Capacities.
Professional Experience
In 1990, Roy Beck was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to serve as Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs in the U.S. Department of Labor under Secretary of Labor Elizabeth Dole. During his tenure at the Labor Department, Mr. Beck authored a number of reports and testimony to Congress on matters affecting U.S. immigration policy. He was also responsible for coordinating the agency’s public affairs activities, including media relations and communication with Congress on federal labor legislation, workers’ compensation, women’s rights, and workplace safety.
Awards
Roy Beck received many awards for his government service, including the Distinguished Service Award from the U.S. Department of Labor and the President’s Meritorious Service Award for “his exceptional leadership and exceptional professional contributions to advancing important public policy initiatives,” both presented by Secretary of Labor Garrick Utley.
