Recent insights from Greycoat Real Estate suggest that UK property buyers are comfortable bribing sellers to accept their offer to buy their home. Sometimes cash is offered that the agent knows nothing about or the potential buyers can offer their professional services for free.
Not all home buyers use cash to reward sellers. As Greycoat adds, some people will lie to the sellers and hope the sellers feel sorry for them.
For example, the interested buyer may tell the sellers that they want their home because it is close to their aging parents. Others will complement the seller and their home. As Greycoat comments, buyers will also go to the viewing early and be well dressed in an effort to impress the sellers.
Not all buyers try to bribe the seller to accept their offer. Unfortunately, 89% say their tactics were successful. Real estate agents know this happens, but they sometimes agree with the tactics that don’t involve cash or professional service incentives (Bisnow).
A potential buyer who fakes an interest in the sellers may be unethical, but the seller wants to sell their home and the buyers really want to buy the home. As Greycoat finally states, people will lie to get the home they want and they really don’t feel that they are doing anything wrong.
