Margie Hauser has led a life full of success and self-expression as an artist and entrepreneur. She has worked in the music industry for most of her career, starting at Capitol Records during the 1960s and remaining active in management throughout her time with BMG Entertainment. She is retired from the business but continues promoting artists behind the scenes. She has shown no signs of slowing down, starting several food-related businesses and advocating for clean water initiatives in Washington. Margie Hauser was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Harold and Helen Hauser on February 17, 1936. , She has been involved in the music industry since high school, when she began singing professionally with a jazz band named the Del Rubio Triplets. One of her earliest influences was Judy Garland. At an early age, Hauser was very interested in acting and theater. She had a leading role in the play “The Gondoliers” and was a glee club member. Hauser’s love for music transferred to songwriting when she wrote her first song at age thirteen, a Christmas carol titled “Dear Santa.”Then, she started writing songs for her high school productions after graduating from Brooklyn Tech High School in 1953. In 1955 Hauser graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Arts.

Margie Hauser worked as a secretary for the U.S. Army and the Royal Bank of Canada in New York before being hired at Capitol Records in 1959 by producer Steve Sholes as his secretary. She was later promoted to executive secretary for a department including Alan Livingston, the president of Capitol Records. She worked under Livingston and taught herself how to book recording sessions, liaise with performers, and create contracts. Hauser was an integral part of the industry during her time at Capitol Records, booking almost every studio recording session for the label. In 1963 Margie Hauser began opening up concerts for The Beatles on their first United States tour as a manager in BMG Entertainment and stayed with them until 1969.
A variety of organizations has extensively recognized Margie Hauser’s success. She was featured in Billboard’s “Women Who Make Music” article on November 23, 2013. She has created her series entitled “The Margie Hauser Story” to highlight her experiences as a talent manager and label executive and her work on several charities. Hauser has been included in several publications. In 2012 she was awarded the Artistic Achievement Award from the American Legion Auxiliary for her work on behalf of veterans.
